EDUC 5333 Week 5 Post
Discuss your progress on the digital story. What is your plan to be prepared to share your story during the 7th week of class? What do you need assistance with?
My progress has both been going smoothly and challenging on the digital story. Being that my story is a musical experience being developed through virtual instruments, the storyboarding process was simple and provided a clear framework in which to present the final product of my musical compositions. I can also see that the use of storyboarding when translating my project for student use in the classroom would be incredibly beneficial to keep students on track when organizing and ultimately presenting their work. My plan to be prepared to share my story during our 7th week of classes is to display slides with a brief description to orient my classmates on the premise of the musical composition, while also playing clips of each of the three composed pieces. At this point in time, I believe that the area I need the most assistance in is frustratingly time! As with everyone else working on their projects in the midst of completing their contractual, family, and personal obligations while entering the holiday season, being confident in the presentation of my musical compositions along with the assignment-required elements and not overcomplicating my final product is in the forefront of my mind while working.
Review the resources for this week and discuss potential application tools for the production of your story or use with students in your classroom.
VoiceThread is an application that could be useful in applying the production of this story in the classroom with students. Using a streamlined interface, students storyboard the visual elements of their musical compositions to enhance their impact when they present their pieces.
In preparation for the Digital Storytelling in your Community Assignment due next week. Discuss the following:
Who is the authentic audience for your story? Who will be impacted by it? In what ways might this story resonate with this audience?
The authentic audience for my story is people who have experienced a change in their lives and have grown because of that change. While not all people are able to succinctly articulate that they resonate with my story, the art of storytelling provides a vast medium by which all people can express the feelings related to that change in life.
What skills and knowledge have you developed as you create your story?
The skills and knowledge I have developed as I have created my story have been that of how to effectively organize a story arc, determine what elements make an impactful digital story, and efficiently organize said elements of a digital story based on music in visual form using storyboarding. This knowledge and these skills culminate into being able to produce a quality digital story, and additionally be able to replicate the development process for my own storytelling endeavors as well as my students.
How might your community/students be impacted by engaging in digital storytelling? What role can you play?
My community/students may be impacted by engaging in digital storytelling by learning new mediums by which to engage with other community members. Students who engage in digital storytelling can connect with their peers, family, and community at large. The community itself may find new avenues by which to share information and ways of expression through the framework of planning and sharing a digital story. I can provide guidance to students in their storytelling planning process, as well as direct them towards success in sharing their stories so that their ideas and feelings have an opportunity to be seen and heard further than just their immediate environments.
